Save Briarcliff Mansion

Save Briarcliff Mansion
The Issue
Briarcliff, the Georgian Revival mansion built for Asa Candler, Jr in 1920 sits vacant, and has for quite some time. The property was bought by Emory University in 1998 along with a dozen other buildings associated with the old Georgia Mental Health Institute. The mansion in all of its decrepit misery is, astoundingly, located in historic Druid Hills, on a highly visible road in Metro Atlanta.
The building is boarded up and only occasionally used for television and movie location filming. From Brian McGrath Davis' haunting photographs to eye-witness reports, it is clear that the building is slowly rotting away.
Emory has has begun demolishing the 1950s-era Cross-shaped health building, the Georgia Mental Health Institute 'Bungalow' buildings, and the numerous pre-fab and utility buildings on the property. According to their 2005 master plan, they intend to build housing for employees. The fate of Briarcliff is unknown, though, and according to a PR piece on YouTube it is too expensive to rehab but also too expensive to tear down. So it is left to rot
Considering all that the Candler's did for Emory, we believe Emory needs to start working immediately on saving this architectural and historical treasure.
