Fund the Waynesboro Branch of the Virginia Museum of Natural History in 2016!

The Issue

Insure that the Waynesboro Branch of the Virginia Museum of Natural Resources becomes a reality! The independent economic study is completed. The Chmura study projects numerous benefits from a new 21,850 sq. ft. facility including 108 construction jobs, annual operations budget of $500,000 and 10 jobs, visitor spending of $1.8 million, yielding significant annual tax revenue: local – $23,608, State – $49,576. The City of Waynesboro has made a significant commitment. As reported in the News Virginian on December 29, 2015 “According to Julia Bortle, Waynesboro City Council clerk, council voted unanimously to a $1 million economic incentive to build a $7.5 million satellite campus in the city.” We now need the State of Virginia to step up and leverage this support. This is the first of four steps of the strategic Center for Coldwaters Restoration project (go to CCRWaynesboro.org) of Waynesboro’s industrial rebirth centered on natural resources. In addition, a Waynesboro campus of the Virginia Museum of Natural Resources further enhances the museum’s overall mission of serving the citizens of Virginia by making it easily accessible to a large percentage of the state’s population. Sign your name below to let our state representatives know that the citizens of Waynesboro and the surrounding communities want them to support state funding of this vital regional economic and educational project by inserting a budget resolution in the 2016 – 2017 budget.
