Emergency services medal for the injured on duty & then medically discharged.

The Issue

VERY MUCH MORE  IMPORTANTLY than this one, please use this link to sign the Govn. Parliamentary Petition (even easier to do) because it can and WILL be presented to the 'HOUSE' whereas this one is not eligible.

Currently, ALL members of the 3 'emergency services', i.e. ambulance, fire and police, who are injured whilst actively engaged on duty and are medically discharged, receive no recognition medal for their contribution to service, whilst those who are able to complete a period of 20 years service are awarded a 'Long Service and Good Conduct medal'.

Many of the injured are known personally to me and include those who are harrowingly severely brain damaged or in wheelchairs requiring assistance dogs.

On such occasions as 'Memorial Days' the discharged injured with less than the eligibility service view their colleagues proudly wearing their medals displaying a connection to the service and fallen colleagues.

However, having been deprived of completing their eligible service through no fault of their own and being without a medal, they are thus unable to display any connection to the service whatsoever. Therefore to all, including unknown ex-colleagues, they may be merely seen as just another spectating member of the public.

I believe this is a disgrace in the same way as some members of the armed forces were overlooked, especially during wartime but due to prolonged pressure were eventually awarded a recognition medal and an apology many years later but sadly too late for many.

We live in such turbulent times when only too frequently members of the 3 emergency services are called upon and indeed willingly put themselves in danger to protect us and are sadly injured doing so.

I passionately believe their loss when injured and medically discharged from the services, should be recognised in the form of a special medal of appreciation for their valuable contribution in seeking to ensure the safety of us all.

I further propose that if it were to be agreed on such a deserved award, that it may be done retrospectively so that those eligible and still living will finally have the recognition of appreciation and of their health sacrifice.

If this petition were to succeed it may prove to be a much-needed great morale boost within all 3 circles for both serving and retired officers and a reminder to the public of the dangers they face daily on their behalf.

Increased pressure mounts on all 3 services during turbulent and worrying times, we need to show our appreciation and recognise those who risk their lives and sacrifice their health to keep us all safe.

I ask that you kindly support this petition and please add a comment.

Finally, DO NOT DONATE as it does NOT go to the cause but to this site, allegedly to promote BUT I've never seen any difference that it makes!

Thank you.
