9 dogs recently arrived from two of the most notorious puppy mills in Nebraska. The condition they are in is a fright. Most are happy to be rescued, but Bluebell, a darling little Chihuahua girl, is not so sure. It will take time, love and attention to convince her that people can be good. She has only one toe on one of her front feet. It is obvious that she sustained a severe injury, possibly caught up in wire cage bottoms at the puppy mill. Marigold, a sweet little yorkie girl, has no bottom jaw at all. It is unclear whether it was broken in a trauma injury, rotted away from infection, or both. Other dogs rescued are covered in battle scars from being shoved in small cages where they had to fight other dogs for food and space. Several are matted, filthy wrecks. The dogs were rescued from two puppy mills that are so notorious that they have made the news and are listed as repeat offenders on the Horrible Hundred list of worst puppy mills in the United States.
You have chance to help in a big way. On Wednesday May 20th, Hearts United for Animals and the HUA Omaha Dog Adoption Scenter are participating in Omaha Gives, a special way to bring the community together to support charitable causes. In addition to competing for a proportionate share of a match pool of funds totaling $350,000, HUA has a very generous donor who has offered to match each donation dollar for dollar up to $100,000. This means that donations made to HUA through the Omaha Gives website will be matched MORE THAN DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR. This is an amazing opportunity to help more than double the number of lives we can save and care we can provide for dogs in need like these precious dogs who arrived last night. Please help the puppy mill dogs.
Check out our Facebook page to view the rescue work of HUA and help participate in our biggest giving day of the year. Please ask your friends to help too by passing on this email and asking them to donate to Hearts United for Animals at www.OmahaGives24.org.
We will keep you updated on the Department of Agriculture's follow through with the recent legislation and regulation changes. Hopefully our next update will be that these two awful breeders are being closed for good.
