Put a Lump of Coal in Director Ibach's Stocking this Christmas Tell the Nebraska Department of Ag and Nebraska State Senators that puppy mill dogs need fresh potable water, not blocks of ice or green slime. When puppy mill reform bill LB360 was introduced by Senator Jerry Johnson, Ag Committee Chair, Senator Al Davis moved to include language that would provide a continuous supply of potable water to breeder dogs, as well as keep them from freezing to death in winter or sweltering in summer. Senator Johnson felt that these items would be best addressed in the regulations rather than law and promised that they would be included. However, on December 2nd, at a hearing regarding proposed regulation changes by the Nebraska Dept of Ag, these items were not included. Dr. Annette Bredthauer, veterinarian for the NDA dog and cat program in Nebraska, stated that there just really aren't that many breeders with water issues. Evidence from photos that their own inspectors have taken says different. We wonder how many dogs have to go without drinkable water for the NDA to care? How many have to paw at buckets of ice? Apparently more than dozens, or even hundreds, based on past photographic evidence from their own files. At the hearing Senators Al Davis and Ernie Chambers were livid and Senator Johnson expressed his disappointment. Please help by letting all of the Nebraska State Senators know that you care and you are outraged. When HUA supporters protested the reappointment of Director Greg Ibach based on his appalling record, both Director Ibach and Governor Pete Ricketts promised change. Change has happened and those changes appear to include a plethora of maneuvers to subvert the will of the people and the legislature. FOIA requests are taking weeks to fulfill and ridiculous amounts of money are being charged to obtain these public records. Photos are no longer included in inspection reports of exceptionally substandard facilities. No fines have been levied, licenses revoked or charges pressed. It would appear that the NDA, under Ibach's leadership, is making every effort to cover up the ongoing atrocities and be sure no court cases can be made or action taken on behalf of suffering animals. Please help us demand justice for the dogs. Sign and share our NEW petition today.
