The Issue

Recently, Madrid City Hall announced the parrots capture and death through gassing and shooting. It was explained as a way to manage the population of the 12,000 parrots in the city of Madrid.
As we know, in Spain, these introduced parrots are classified as an invasive exotic species and the City Council has decided that they do NOT have an "ecological right to life".
These animals cannot pay for the administrative negligence that has lasted 30 years. Historically, attempts at culling a flock of parrots has never been successful. Killing is often the first choice of a limited mind. The humane and proper choice would be to choose a non-lethal method. Removing the nests before and after the breeding season is one method. Birth control is another method. But to use killing as a first option is not only ineffective, but it is both cruel and inhumane.
