Dragon Capsule SCOUT
The Issue
To Mr. Elon Musk,
We would respectfully request that you name an upcoming Dragon capsule "SCOUT".
From the beginning of space exploration, Scouts have been involved.
-The first 2 men to walk on the moon were Scouts.
-Neil Armstrong took his World Scout Membership Badge to the moon.
-11 of the 12 men who have walked on the moon were Scouts.
-All 3 crewmen of Apollo 13 were Scouts.
- Well over ⅔ of all space travelers have been affiliated with scouting.
Scouting encourages young people to go places and seek adventure. Scouts are camping, hiking, sailing, kayaking and climbing around the world right now. The spirit of Scouting is the same spirit that drives us to the stars!
Scouting also encourages STEM with programs in many different countries. STEM will be needed to get to where we are going. STEM programs will open career fields of tomorrow to boys and girls of today.
Service to the community is at the core of Scouting. The Mission of Scouting is to contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based of the Scout Promise and Law,To help build a better world where people are self fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society. Today 50 million Scouts worldwide are serving their communities. Through the Messengers of Peace program millions of young people are learning to serve people who might be different from themselves.
Scouts today will be repeating the Scout Oath or Promise and Scout Law. The languages will vary but the meaning is universal. The Scout Oath and Scout Law, expressed in America are:
Oath
On my honor, I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my Country and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.
Law A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent.
Mr. Musk, if you agree that Scouts and Scouting are part of our voyage, and if you believe that our values benefit our planet please consider this request. Although Change.org might call this a demand, it is simply a respectful request.
