Elmhurst Park District Approval Needed For Family Purchase of a Small Tree Memorial Marker

The Issue

With deep sorrow, I share the story of my nephew, Will Fallon, who tragically succumbed to a severe asthma attack last week in Elmhurst, IL. This sudden loss has been devastating to our family and has also highlighted the urgency of raising awareness about chronic respiratory diseases like asthma, which affects 25 million people in the United States (CDC, 2020).

Remembering this victim of asthma serves not only as a tribute for a life lost much too soon, but as a constant reminder of this debilitating condition.

This petition is targeted at obtaining the approval from the Elmhurst Park District to allow our family to purchase a small tree marker/plaque at the foot of an available Memorial Tree at Berens Park.  I've already requested this personally; however, EPD has declined my request stating that the Memorial Program has been suspended recently.  There are literally 100's of trees at the park that are available and do not currently have a marker.  Will’s parents are 20+ year Elmhurst Residents that have been active in the community and only live only 2 blocks away from Berens Park.  This very small gesture will provide them with a long-lasting living remembrance and much needed emotional support and benefit to their family for many years to come.

Elmhurst is a caring community that values every life, and it's important we commemorate these individuals whose lives were cut short...which was the original intention of the Memorial Tree Program.

So, we implore the Elmhurst Park District and the community at large to support this small gesture for Will's family.   Please show your support and sign this petition.

Thank you!
