Elkhorn Public Schools Spring Break

Elkhorn Public Schools Spring Break
The Issue
Petition Purpose:
To have the Elkhorn School Board return spring break to the first week after the end of the winter sports' season. (The week following the Nebraska Boys' State Basketball Tournament)
To bring awareness to the fact that from 2013-2016 spring break was scheduled during the first week after the end of the winter sports' season.
To raise awareness that for 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021 spring break has been rescheduled to the second week after the end of the winter sports' season. This causes conflicts with spring games, meets and events (state speech). These conflicts force families to choose between:
- College visits or games, meets, events.
- Going on family vacations or games, meets, events
- Going on band, choir or academic trips or games, meets, events
To raise awareness that according to the school board, the rescheduling of spring break was not due to a policy change or conflict.
- According to administration, the placement of spring break has never been thought-out or purposeful.
- According to administration, there were not any complaints about the previous placement of spring break, from 2013-2016.
- The school board gave no information or research to support the rescheduling other than, "It's in the best interest of students."
Signing this petition will show the school board there are patrons that would like to return spring break to the week following the end of the winter sports' season.
