Removing Slave Portrait Displayed from US Post Office

Removing Slave Portrait Displayed from US Post Office

The Issue

Removal of Slave mural hanging in US Post Office in Medford MA. The slave mural is a constant reminder of US racist past. This image should have never been commissioned to be painted in the federal building.

Concerned residents have recieved at best cursory, and not one of the publicly elected officials professed any concern over this offensive image. Various rationalizations for not acting were offered, such as "it's historical" or "its a Federal building".

So, the slave mural remains in public view - another testiment to the indifference of our elected officials to offer any attempt to correct or address past misery. It is time for us to take stance against mural and all that it represents.
