Legalize Fireworks in Massachusetts

The Issue

Consumer fireworks are safer today than ever before. In fact, since 1976, the amount of fireworks being sold in the United States has increased seven times, but at the same time, the nation has experienced a drastic decline in injuries. That means that the fireworks being sold today are extremely safe.

But safety isn't the only reason that fireworks should be legal. Since 2010, seven states have relaxed their fireworks laws, and as a result, each state has gained an extra $500,000 - $1,000,000 in revenue from those firework sales. Many new jobs would be created in Massachusetts.

The ban on fireworks is ineffective. As a result, homemade fireworks are being used, causing more injuries than legal consumer fireworks ever would. In some ways, legalizing fireworks is one of the best things a state can do for safety. Once fireworks are legal, people will no longer need to hide their activities, and parents can keep a closer eye on kids and ignite fireworks in safe places. In areas where fireworks are permitted, people tend to use them appropriately.

It's time to end Massachusetts' fireworks ban. Join me by signing the petition today!
