Congress: Introduce a Price-Ceiling for ADHD medication

The Issue

The prices of ADHD medication are absolutely absurd. According to Drugs.com, Vyvanse is $10.67 per pill or $320 for a month's supply, Ritalin is $1.89 per pill or $113 for a months supply, and Adderall is $7.44 per pill or $223 per month.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (which now includes what used to be known as Attention Deficit Disorder) is a disorder that can affect many aspects of life. It causes inattention, inability to pay attention to detail, impulsiveness, restlessness, trouble focusing for any extended period of time, and inability to follow directions/instructions, and trouble staying organized. It is also a disorder that will stick with the person its entire life, albeit the way it manifests changes in life.

For many people with ADHD, medication is what helps them function on a day-to-day basis. For myself, my own mother has described me off my medication as, "Like if Tigger from Winnie the Pooh had smoked crack-cocaine or drank 10 cups of coffee." Luckily with insurance, my own medication is about $50 per month, yet many Americans do not have insurance, or will be kicked off our parents' insurance policies once we hit the age of 26. For how much the medications positively impact our lives on a daily basis, no one wants to be without them. Yet we will be unable to sustainably pay for them at this rate. If price ceilings are put into place, it could help every single person in the country with ADHD. Additionally, the increased productivity gained from having a higher access to these medications could create millions in increased business/taxes.
