Get the NYC Parks Department to renovate the roller hockey rink at Mafera Park

Get the NYC Parks Department to renovate the roller hockey rink at Mafera Park
The Issue
The roller hockey rink at Mafera Park, affectionately known as “The Oval,” has been an important part of the community for the residents of Ridgewood, Glendale, Middle Village and Maspeth since 1995, and has been home to two leagues. In recent years, the rink has been vandalized and left to deteriorate, leaving the playing surface, boards and scoreboard in very poor condition. Though no league is currently active, The Oval is still used and enjoyed today by an avid group of hockey players who come to the rink on a regular basis.
The poor playing conditions and vandalism have become a serious problem creating a hazardous playing environment. We would like Council Member, Elizabeth Crowley, and the New York City Parks Department to allocate funds to renovate the rink, specifically repairing the cracked and deteriorated surface, the damaged boards, the malfunctioning lights and the scoreboard. These improvements would not only benefit those who play hockey at Mafera Park, but would revive interest in the sport, potentially leading to the establishment of a new league serving both children and adults in our community. If the rink is not repaired, it will continue to rapidly deteriorate making it unplayable.
The Oval is part of this community and beloved by all who have played on it. It has positively affected the lives of many children and adults in the area, fostering a love of hockey for many of us. We want to return our rink to its former glory as a wonderful place to play hockey, maintaining it for future generations to enjoy.
Please sign our petition and help us achieve our goal. The Oval needs you.
