Eliminate USPS "No Backing Rule" or properly train and equip the drivers to backup.
The Issue
Sometime near the beginning of Summer 2022 by what I was told, the United States Postal Service enacted a no backing rule because they use panel vans for their new vehicles, and they have no cargo area windows or backup cameras by what I am told and can see. Due to this they are leaving rural route customers with no package deliveries, alternately leaving them along the road near their mailboxes or even causing customers to have to drive in many cases long distances to pick up their parcels at the nearest post office. Which can be preventative to many members of the community. I'm affected by this issue as well as quite a few of my neighbors because we have long driveways 1/8-1/2 mile long with traditional 3-point turn arounds and according to many of the postal representatives I’ve spoken to they aren’t allowed to deliver to locations setup in this manor because they are forbidden from backing up their vans due to safety concerns. I personally have worked for other package handling businesses and they all spend a week or more doing driving training and exams in which half of these test are centered around backing up or navigating the vehicle in reverse. Amazon drivers must drive a full obstacle course in forward and reverse in order to be approved to deliver VIA a prime van. I do not see why the USPS (a government organization) doesn’t have the means or ability to implement this training into their onboarding or continued training processes. So, I’m asking for support to have this matter addressed by the USPS. That way rural customers aren’t left inconvenienced or stuck without having their packages delivered via USPS.
