Eliminate UKCA Testing Requirements for Handmade Toys by small UK businesses

Eliminate UKCA Testing Requirements for Handmade Toys by small UK businesses
The Issue
I am a passionate crafter, trying to start a small business selling my handmade crocheted toys. However, the current requirement for these toys to undergo UKCA testing is not only expensive but also unnecessary. These tests are great for large factory producers. But for individuals, it's hard to imagine anyone wanting to set fire to something they've spent hours lovingly hand crafting.
The cost of UKCA testing can be prohibitive for small businesses like mine. This financial burden is particularly heavy on individual crafters who often operate on tight margins.
Moreover, handmade toys have a long history of being safe and cherished items. They are typically made with care and attention that mass-produced items simply cannot match.
Therefore, we call upon the relevant authorities to reconsider the necessity of UKCA testing for handmade toys. We believe there should be an exemption or alternative less costly certification process in place for small-scale crafters who produce these unique and precious items.
Please sign this petition if you believe in supporting local artisans and preserving the tradition of handmade crafts in our communities.
