Eliminate the West Virginia Vehicle Inspection Requirement

The Issue

If you've ever driven on a West Virginia road, you've likely encountered construction, massive potholes, road slips, and even closed road sections. As I have experienced firsthand, the state of our roads can wreak havoc on our vehicles. That's why it seems utterly unfair that we, as residents, are also obligated to pay for vehicle inspections, essentially footing the bill for the damage the roads cause.

This is not only a financial stressor on us West Virginians but also an issue of responsibility. The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) graded our state's roads a D in its 2021 Infrastructure Report Card. It means that our roads and highways' poor condition is a recognized problem nationally, a problem that should be the state's obligation to improve, not ours to compensate for through obligatory vehicle inspections.

Considering the subpar condition of our state's roads, I propose eliminating the vehicle inspection requirement in West Virginia, thereby relieving residents of an unjust financial burden. Sign this petition if you believe in holding our state accountable for improving our roads instead of demanding us to pay for their negligence.
