I am one of many UK residents who are burdened with an annual standing charge of over £300 on our gas and electric bills. This is a significant amount, especially for those of us struggling to make ends meet. The standing charge is a fixed cost that we have to pay regardless of how much energy we use. It's unfair and it adds unnecessary financial pressure on households across the country.

According to Ofgem, the UK's energy regulator, around 4 million households in England, Scotland and Wales were in fuel poverty in 2019 (source: Ofgem). That means they had above-average energy costs that left them with a residual income below the official poverty line. The standing charge contributes significantly to these high costs.

We believe it's time for change. We call upon our utility providers and regulators to eliminate this unjust standing charge from our gas & electric bills. This would be a significant step towards making energy more affordable for everyone in the UK.
