Eliminate the Pink Tax in Australia

Eliminate the Pink Tax in Australia
The issue
Despite efforts to progress towards a more inclusive society, gender inequality remains a prevalent issue through gender-based discrimination in terms of product and service pricing. This discrimination is known as the "pink tax", where everyday products marketed towards women, from razors to clothing items, often cost more than nearly identical products targeted towards men. Research conducted by AMP confirms that women pay on average 29% more for razors compared to similar products targeted at men, 16% more for body wash, 12% more for underwear, 11% more for shampoo, 9% more for multivitamins, and 5% more for jeans. Women are also reportedly charged more for services, including income protection and dry cleaning. This financial exploitation is extremely discriminatory and unjust, placing a significant economic burden on women and subjecting them to additional issues such as period poverty.
Whilst Australia has partially addressed financial inequality by removing the 10% goods and services tax on feminine hygiene products in 2019, pricing inequalities for other products and services remain unaddressed. We call upon the Australian government to urgently address this issue, enacting policies and laws to protect female consumers from the unfair pricing strategies they continue to be subjected to. Sign this petition to stand against the pink tax, helping to foster a just society that embraces financial equality for all Australians regardless of gender.
