As a student at Mount Boucherie Secondary School (MBSS) in West Kelowna, BC, I find the constant ringing of the school bell to be a significant disruption to my learning process. The loud and abrupt noise not only interrupts my concentration but also creates an environment of stress and anxiety.

Research has shown that such auditory disruptions can negatively impact students' cognitive performance. According to a study published by the Journal of Environmental Psychology, noise disturbances in schools can lead to decreased memory recall and reading comprehension (Journal of Environmental Psychology, 2015).

Moreover, many progressive educational institutions worldwide are moving away from traditional school bells towards no signal at all. This approach fosters an atmosphere conducive for focused learning and self-regulation among students.

Therefore, we call upon the administration of MBSS and relevant educational authorities in Westbank, West Kelowna to consider removing or replacing the current disruptive school bell system with one that respects our need for a calm and effective learning environment.
