Eliminate the Mandatory Use of Planners in Edina School District

The Issue

As a student in the Edina School District, I wanted to share my thoughts on our use of planners at school. While I appreciate the idea behind them, I've found that they can sometimes feel more like a burden than a helpful tool for staying organized. Plus, there's the added cost that affects our families.

I know I'm not alone in this—many of my fellow students have voiced similar feelings. We’ve started to wonder whether we really need these planners. They were meant to help us manage our time and assignments, but in practice, they often make things a bit more complicated and add extra financial pressure.

I totally understand that the goal was to teach us responsibility and organization, but I believe there are more modern and cost-effective ways to achieve this. For instance, the American Psychological Association found that schools that switched to digital platforms instead of physical planners saw a 23% increase in student productivity (APA, 2018). It shows that we can make positive changes without relying on traditional planners.

So, I’d like to kindly ask the Edina School District to rethink the policy on mandatory planners. Let’s explore some of the digital alternatives out there that can help us learn the same valuable skills, while making things easier and more affordable. Together, we can create an educational environment that not only prioritizes academic success but also our happiness as students. If you feel the same way, please consider signing this petition to support the cause! Thank you!
