The Issue

The East Wenatchee City Council has imposed an 11% tax on all utilities within the city limits, affecting all residents and businesses based in East Wenatchee, WA. This tax unjustly targets those living within the city, as it does not extend to those residing just outside of these boundaries yet receiving the same utility services. This constitutes a discriminatory and unconstitutional tax that unfairly burdens East Wenatchee citizens without offering them any representation about how these funds will be used or setting any limits on future tax increases.

This new levy lacks transparency, accountability, and fairness, going against the principles of equity and representation. There's a pressing need to address this issue since it places an unreasonable financial strain on residents and businesses during an economically challenging time. With no cap on future assessments, residents are left vulnerable to potential financial exploitation.

This tax not only creates unwarranted financial stress but is also not clear about its purpose or implementation plan. Citizens deserve a transparent process in the decision-making concerning local taxation, complete with clear explanations and justifications for the imposed tax.

It’s crucial for the East Wenatchee City Council to reconsider and repeal this tax, replacing it with a more just and representative approach that includes citywide input and equitable application. We demand our representatives listen to their constituents and ensure taxation reflects the needs and realities of all residing within Douglas County fairly.

Join us in standing against this tax and advocating for transparency and fairness. Sign this petition today to urge the East Wenatchee City Council to eliminate the 11% utility tax and demand a system where all voices are heard and respected.
