Eliminate roadside illegal vendors in Mangalore
The Issue
The Town Hall area in Mangalore, once a lively and pleasant place, is now plagued by the nuisance of illegal street vendors. These vendors not only obstruct the pathways by selling clothes illegally but also tarnish the surroundings with litter—empty bottles, plates, and other waste. This pollution is transforming our community space into a hub of chaos and disorder.
The impact of this situation on the residents is troubling. Local citizens face increasing incidents of pickpocketing, and women in the area are continually harassed by drunkards, who are seemingly encouraged by some vendors. The safety and peace of our neighborhood is under threat, especially for women who feel unsafe walking around due to the behavior of these individuals.
Moreover, whenever concerns are raised, these vendors resort to intimidation—threatening to protest and block streets, further exacerbating the problem. These vendors are supported by the so called Road Side Sellers Union, who collect ₹20 /₹30 from everyone and allow them to establish stalls on footpath.
We believe the authorities should step in and take decisive action to remove these illegal vendors from our footpaths. By enforcing existing laws against illegal vending and addressing littering issues, we can restore order and safety to our community space. Additionally, increased patrolling and vigilance in the area could deter potential miscreants, contributing to a safe and clean environment around the Town Hall.
We urge the concerned local authorities—municipal officials and the police department—to collaborate on finding a permanent solution that ensures the safety, cleanliness, and liveliness of our beloved Town Hall area.
Mrs. Prasanna Ravi along with Kudla Rampage has took to initiative to expose the wrongdoings by the corporation and the few locals supporting them in the name of union
Sign this petition to support a cleaner, safer, and more organized Mangalore. Let us take our community space back and make it welcoming for everyone once again. Together, we can make a difference.
