Eliminate Provincial Achievement Tests from Alberta's Education System

The Issue

Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) have been a part of Alberta's education system for years, serving as a measure of student understanding and school performance. However, these tests may not be the most effective way to evaluate educational progress. Research suggests that standardized testing can lead to stress among students and may not accurately reflect their full academic potential or creativity (Alberta Teachers' Association). Furthermore, PATs consume valuable instructional time that could be better used for in-depth learning and skill development. In 2019 alone, over 93% of teachers in Alberta agreed that PATs have little to no effect on student learning (Alberta Teachers' Association). By removing these tests from our education system, we can focus more on comprehensive assessment methods that truly reflect the diverse capabilities of our students. It's time for change - sign this petition to eliminate Provincial Achievement Tests from Alberta's education system.
