Eliminate Property Tax on Primary Residential Homes in Ohio

Eliminate Property Tax on Primary Residential Homes in Ohio
The Issue
I, like many Ohio residents, worked hard, saved, and dreamed of the day I could close the deal on my very own home. It was a symbol of attainment, security, and freedom. Yet, every year, we are forced to pay taxes on this hard-earned property, causing fear of loss and feelings of control rather than freedom. In Ohio, the annual tax on a residential property averages at 1.57% of the property's assessed fair market value, ranking us as the 14th highest among all the states (Tax Foundation, 2020).
Imagine this scenario: I bought a pair of socks, and I paid taxes on them. Now, they are mine. There is no recurring tax on those socks. So, why should I still pay taxes on the home which I spent thousands on and already paid taxes for? The concept of property tax, especially when applied to primary residences, can be compared to a never-ending payment plan on a product that should be considered fully ours.
Therefore, we are asking for a reform in Ohio's property tax law: To end property taxes on primary residential homes. This change will not only relieve homeowners of unnecessary financial burdens and stress, particularly during hard times, but it will also promote the values of liberty and ownership that our great state of Ohio recognizes. Help us make a home in Ohio truly a home. Sign this petition and let us take our homes back.
