Eliminate Personal Property Taxes in Arkansas "Signatures" (NO Donations Necessarily)
The Issue
When an individual owns personal property such as cars, boats, land, or houses etc. That means a person has already bought and paid taxes on it. It seems fundamentally unfair to continue paying taxes on a personal asset you already own. This is a situation that hits home for me and many others in Arkansas. Our personal property belongs to us; and us alone. No individual, city, town, nor state etc. should be allowed to say or make a person continuously pay personal taxes on property an individual already owns. It's not and/or should not be under anyone else's purview or decision to charge reoccurring taxes on it, Talk about beyond “Double Taxation.”
The imposition of continual taxes on one's "owned" property can feel like an undue burden but pretty much also states that an individual will never actually "Legitimately" own anything. We often hear that these taxes fund our local city or town budgets, but does it really? Regardless is it really fair to keep handing over our hard-earned money year after year after year? IT'S NOT A QUESTION OF AGREEING WITH HOW THESE TAXES ARE SUPPOSEDLY USED. “Which really raises an issue of transparency as we wonder where these funds actually go” but it’s the fact of the matter it’s our own personal property and we don’t owe you!!
In Arkansas, personal property taxes affect every individual who owns property how, cause if one does not pay their personal property taxes then the personal asset or asset's one owns will be ceased by the state or local city. This includes everything from family vehicles to cherished heirlooms passed down through generations. The revenue generated from these taxes purportedly supports public schools and infrastructure etc. yet they continuously get “Grants” for these situations already, the financial strain they cause on individual property owners cannot be ignored.
There are alternative methods for generating revenue without putting additional pressure on personal property owners. For instance, adjusting the state’s financial expenses, asking for grants and/or receiving funds by the state or exploring other state revenue channels could fill the gap without continuously dipping into the pockets of those who have already paid their dues when purchasing their personal property.
Let's advocate for a more equitable fiscal policy in Arkansas that respects personal ownership and alleviates the recurring burdens on property owners. Please join me in calling for an end to this unnecessary taxation. Sign the petition if you believe in fairness, ownership rights, and transparency in how our state manages its finances.
