Eliminate Mandatory Car Insurance with Proof of Savings

Eliminate Mandatory Car Insurance with Proof of Savings

The Issue

A few years ago, my vehicle was hit in an accident, (While my car was parked). Even after identifying who was responsible, I was compelled to shoulder the cost for the damages and a $1,000 deductible. The driver at fault had no insurance. To add insult to injury, my own insurance company (GEICO), to which I had been dutifully paying premiums, helplessly shrugged off my predicament, stating they couldn't assist me. But is it not precisely for such unforeseen circumstances that we are mandated to have car insurance?

Like me, many citizens feel unjustly penalized for owning a car and being obligated to pay for auto insurance that doesn’t effectively serve us in times of need. This feels like double jeopardy: punished if you don't have insurance and penalized even when you do, hit with costly out-of-pocket expenses and deductibles.

This is why I propose that all U.S. states reconsider the mandatory nature of car insurance. Instead, drivers who can prove they have a minimum of $1,000 in savings should be exempt. This measure would reward financial responsibility and would provide an incentive for individuals to save. Not only would this create a safety net for drivers, but it would also potentially reduce the burden on insurance companies and align with practices in New Hampshire and Virginia, where auto insurance isn’t always compulsory. BESIDES, DO U SEE ANY OTHER CAR INSURANCE COMPANIES OUT HERE BESIDES STATEFARM, LIBERTY MUTUAL, PROGRESSIVE AND ALLSTATE TRYING TO ENCOURAGE POSITIVE CHANGE? ALL OF THESE COMPANIES ARE BASICALLY FIXED TO NOT BE IN COMPETITION WITH EACH OTHER. THEY OFFER MAYBE A 5-10 DOLLAR DIFFERENCE IN RATES. THIS IS NOT REAL COMPETITION! THEY DO THESE THINGS ON PURPOSE, SO WE FEEL STUCK AND FEEL LIKE WE DON'T HAVE CHOICES!

The system needs change. The financially responsible should be rewarded, not penalized. Demand fairness and stand up for change. Your signature will help us bring this necessary change to light. End the mandatory auto insurance requirement for responsible savers today!

Walkers are encouraged to sign this petition as well because 1. You know someone who is struggling to pay for car insurance on top of other bills. 2. You eventually want to stop utilizing transportation services and get a car yourself. 3. The world would just be a better place when you aren’t forced to pay something that has failed people for years!

One idea that may be helpful towards the idea of not having insurance but proof of income to combat the issue of vehicular manslaughter, is the idea that life insurance policies could make a breakthrough by offering this to drivers and cover a certain amount of deaths (if necessary). I believe that people are more comfortable in the idea of covering for someone’s life as opposed to something materialistic such as a car.

IF ALL FAILS:

THE LEAST WE CAN DO IS FIGHT TO STOP THESE INSURANCE PREMIUMS FROM RISING DUE TO INNOCENTLY BEING HIT AND DEMAND THAT THE INSURANCE COMPANIES LOWER THE RATES IF PROVEN TO BE GOOD DRIVERS AFTER 2 YEARS. RATES SHOULD NOT GO UP IF ONE PERSON WAS NOT THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT. DRIVERS DEFENSE COURSES ALSO NEED TO BE HONORED AND LOWER RATES NEED TO BE GIVEN TO DRIVERS WHO TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF TAKING THE COURSE! WE/INNOCENT DRIVERS SHOULDNT HAVE TO SHOULDER THESE COSTS JUST BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE IS BEING RECKLESS AND THE DMV SHOULD MAKE THESE WRECKLESS DRIVERS RETAKE THEIR TESTS IN ORDER TO GET BACK ON THE ROADS. LASTLY, IF INSURANCE COMPANIES WANT TO DROP THEIR CUSTOMERS BECAUSE THEY DONT WANT TO PAY AFTER SOMMETHING HAPPENS, THEY (INSURANCE COMPANIES) NEED TO REPAY THE CUSTOMERS BACK ALL OF THE MONEY THEY RECEIVED FROM THEM!

FYI: ITS 2025, AND I AM JUST GETTING BACK HALF OF THE MONEY I PAID FOR MY DEDUCTIBLE FOR BEING HIT WHILE PARKED. THIS WAS NOW 4 YEARS AGO WHEN THE SITUATION HAPPENED. SO, IT MAKES ME PUSH FOR THE FACT THAT THIS PETITION WOULD FORCE INSURANCE COMPANIES TO PAY OUT TO VICTIMS OF COLLISIONS/CRASHES THAT RESULTED IN DAMAGE TO AN UNOCCUPIED VEHICLE. WE SHOULDNT HAVE TO STRUGGLE FINANCIALLY OR TAKE ON THE EMOTIONAL TOLL OF DOING EVERYTHING OURSELVES IN THESE UNEXPECTED SITUATIONS. WE SHOULD BE GIVEN A MINUMUM OF $2K JUST FOR CONVENIENCE OF HAVING TO WAIT FOR A POLICE REPORT THAT SHOULD ONLY TAKE 24 HRS AND NOT A WEEK, RENTING A CAR WITH OUR OWN MONEY UNTIL THINGS GET SITUATED, AND MISSING OUT ON WORK! PLEASE PUSH FOR THESE LAWS TO BE PUT IN PLACE WITH ME!

OTHER SUGGESTIONS ARE OPEN FOR DISCUSSION! PLEASE POSTS VIDEOS AND PICS FOR SUPPORT! THANKS!
