Eliminate Homework from the Education System
The Issue
I, like many others, grapple with an exhausting routine subjected by an unending cycle of homework. This hamster wheel doesn't seem to stop turning, amplifying the pain in my brain and hindering me from focusing on other significant activities in my life.
For children and teenagers across the globe, homework is causing unnecessary stress and anxiety. According to a study by Stanford University, 56% of students consider homework as the primary source of stress, followed by school, family, and friends (Galloway, Conner & Pope, 2013). It also found a serious case of diminishing returns, where any time spent on after-school work beyond 1-2 hours is physically detrimental to students and has no academic benefit.
We strongly believe that education should encourage explorative learning and creativity, instead of turning students into machines programmed to complete assignments. Our vision is not a world without educational discipline, but a world where school learning can be more practical, explorative, and less burdensome.
We urge the Ministry of Education to consider this pressing issue and take necessary measures to eliminate homework or, at the very least, reduce its suffocating grip on students. Please support our cause and sign this petition to build a healthier, happier environment for our future generations to grow.
