Eliminate Homework for Better Mental Health and Family Relationships

Eliminate Homework for Better Mental Health and Family Relationships
The Issue
School is stressful enough without the added burden of homework, which often hinders our familial relations and disrupts our much-needed sleep. I, like countless other students, am personally affected by the weight of these tasks.
Homework is an international issue and a significant contributor to student stress. According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), 15-year-old students spend an average of 4.9 hours per week on homework. This stress often permeates into family life, causing tension and conflict.
The loss of sleep due to late-night study sessions is another negative effect of excessive homework. The National Sleep Foundation has regularly warned about the detrimental health effects of insufficient sleep. Students are often struggling to keep up with homework's demands, compromising their sleep, which further affects their physical and mental wellbeing.
The current systemic approach to education, comprising abundant assignments and projects, is genuinely imbalanced and unfair. Students’ lives need to be more than just school assignments; they need time for relaxation, hobbies, and family life.
In light of these impacts, I urge authorities to consider revising the current homework policies. Let's promote an educational environment that fosters creativity and wellbeing over excessive workloads. Sign this petition to support the elimination of homework for better mental health and family relationships.
