Eliminate Estate/Inheritance Tax for Grieving Families

The Issue

In the last few years, I have witnessed several friends go through the heart-wrenching experience of losing a parent or other loved one. During this painful time of loss and the struggle to adjust to a new reality, they were further burdened by the government's imposition of inheritance/estate tax. This hard-earned money, painstakingly put aside by parents for their families, is being taken away at a time when families are most vulnerable, in an economy that is harsh and unforgiving. It is sickening to see such insensitivity towards grieving families.

Inheritance tax has long been a contentious issue, with many arguing that it is an unfair levy that penalizes success and prudent financial planning. The funds that loved ones thoughtfully put aside to pass down are being depleted, leaving families with financial stress on top of emotional grief as some of what is rightfully theirs is snatched away before their eyes. This tax doesn't just affect the wealthy; it impacts ALL families striving to build a better future for their generations. In Kentucky, Maryland, Nebraska, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, they suffer from a general inheritance tax, while in the other states we ALL suffer from estate tax, where whatever we inherit in estate is taxed 18-40 percent what it is worth!

Eliminating this tax would allow families to retain the full inheritance intended for them, helping them maintain their standard of living and continue on the path planned by those they have lost. It would remove the additional financial burden from families already facing the overwhelming challenges of bereavement. Taking away the money of the dead who had put it aside for their families is not only cruel, it is wrong.

Many countries have recognized the unfairness of inheritance tax and have removed it. It is time our government followed suit and abolished inheritance tax and estate tax to ease the suffering of these families. Every family has a right to inherit the full fruits of their loved ones' labor without government interference. The government has no right to demand a share of money that does not belong to them. You should not have to pay the government to die!

I urge you to stand with me in calling for the elimination of inheritance tax. Let's protect the families in mourning and stop the government from taking what's not theirs. Sign this petition to make a change that honors those who have passed by supporting their families in their time of need. Together, we can influence policy and bring about compassion and fairness for bereaved families. If I can, I WILL take this up the ranks. Help me fight back.
