Eliminate Child Labor in the Chocolate Industry
This petition had 56 supporters
An estimated 1,817,278 children labor on cocoa farms in Ghana and Ivory Coast. Cocoa harvested with child labor harms children because they are separated from their families, don't get an education, carry heavy loads and are exposed to dangerous chemicals and tools. In 2001 leading chocolate manufactures signed the Harkin-Engel Protocol promising to "end the worst forms of child labor by 70% by 2020." Since 2001, the success of the protocol has been slow. Please help us pressure chocolate companies to certify their chocolate as child labor free by signing this petition. Help abolish child labor in the cocoa industry!
