Eliminate All Property Taxes in the State of Tennessee

The Issue

I am a citizen deeply concerned about the current property tax system in our state of Tennessee. This system does not respect that once we, the homeowners, pay the full price of a property, that property should be unmistakably ours. However, the current scenario threatens to undermine this inalienable right - a clear violation of personal ownership rights enshrined in the constitution. No government, whether state or local, should leverage the power to impose such financial burdens on personal property owners after the point of sale.

The present predicament implies that the government retains ownership over our properties, even after we fully pay fair market value for it, and add to that, pay taxes at the point of sale. Ultimately, unless homeowners continually pay a form of yearly rent (property taxes), the state can step in, seize the property, and we, the so-called owners, have no rights over said property. This isn't just a financial strain; it's a systemic infringement of our constitutional rights.

According to a report by the Tax Foundation, Tennessee ranks 14th nationwide in property tax collection, which indicates how deeply this issue impacts home and landowners in our state. This fundamentally flawed system favors the government at the expense of its citizens, a scenario that should concern every citizen. Across the nation, debates on property rights and their sanctity are rising, and it's high time Tennessee joined this crucial conversation.

We don’t deny the critical role taxes play in governance, infrastructural programs, and societal development. But it must not be at the cost of the constitutional rights of individual property owners. We are not tenants leasing our properties from the government; we are owners who deserve to retain full rights to the properties we lawfully purchased.

Our appeal is simple yet profound - eliminate all property taxes across the State of Tennessee in due recognition of our constitutional rights and the dignity of property ownership. Sign this petition to show your support for this crucial change.
