I have always held a deep connection with Detroit, the city that has been my home for as long as I can remember. This bond has led me to realize that our beloved city deserves more than just being a part of Michigan; it deserves statehood.

Detroit is not just any city; it's the largest and most populous in Michigan, with an estimated population of 670,031 in 2020 (U.S Census Bureau). It's also the largest U.S. city on the United States–Canada border and serves as a major port on the Detroit River connecting Great Lakes system.

However, despite its size and significance, Detroit often gets overlooked when it comes to resources allocation and policy-making decisions at state level. By becoming its own state, Detroit could have direct representation in Congress which would allow us to better advocate for our needs.

This is not about separation but about recognition – recognition of Detroit’s unique challenges and opportunities that require tailored solutions which can only be achieved through direct representation.
