Electric rates are out-of-control

Electric rates are out-of-control
The Issue
To: Governor Kathy Hochul, Congressman Josh Riley, Assembly member Dr. Anna R. Kelles, Senator Lea Webb New Yorkers electricity rates are skyrocketing.
For many of us, rates have increased by 50% or more in one year. Many of us are conserving, but our bills are higher. My home is an example – I heat two out of three floors (1,200 square feet) to 58 degrees (I wear a sweatshirt in the house every day). My latest bill was over $1,000 and bills preceding that were $760 and $840. For most of us, this is unsustainable – we do not have the income to support these exorbitant costs and are suffering with potential significant financial damage. It is ironic that our sky-high fees don’t even benefit our own economy, being garnered by a parent company in Spain, Iberdrola that made record profits in 2025, 7.3 billion dollars, the net up 10% from the previous year. What actions, if any, is the New York State Commission taking to protect residents from these escalating costs? This is an urgent concern. We are struggling and we need help now! Please, we urge you to take immediate and decisive action.
