Disqualify Kevin J. Johnston from Calgary Mayoral Race

The Issue

Calgary Mayoral Candidate Kevin J. Johnston has a history of racist violence and has been accused of an assault charge in B.C. as well as hate crime charges in Ontario. He has also issued threats to multiple Alberta Health Services workers, which have been documented through his social media. He is currently attempting to collect addresses and personal information of multiple AHS officials with the goal of doxing these individuals. He is quoted saying 'I'll arm myself and I'll come right to your doors'.

In March, Johnston punched a B.C. grocery store employee in the face after being kicked out for not wearing a mask. In 2019, an Ontario judge issued a ruling in a libel suit filed against Johnston, calling his behaviors a "loathsome example of hate speech at its worst, targeting people solely because of their religion." (CBC news)

Though Johnston has not yet gone to trial for these accusations, it is clear that he is a dangerous and violent man with horrific racist ideals. There is no place for this behavior in Calgary's city hall, and we believe it is wrong to give Johnston a platform for his hateful rhetoric.
