Demand for 100 % VVPAT Slip counting after every elections in India
The Issue
Supreme Court of India mandated that VVPAT paper trails be attached to every Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). Over the past several years, the machine has malfunctioned during voting and at many places people complained that the vote they polled and VVPAT slip ďid not match or symbol of another candidate flashed on the EVM.
Independent experts have proved that the EVMs can be tampered with. An EVM expert Mr Syed Shuja has given open challenge to the EC that he is able to manipulate data in the EVMs. He has challenged the EC to bring any number of EVMs used in a previous election in India with votes in it, to the Supreme Court and that he will access them from a remote location and change the numbers as he wishes. He has given several demos on EVM machines used in 2019 general elections. Several such demos are available in YouTube.
EC should answer how such secured machines with votes in it reached in the hands of public after the general elections in 2019.
Prior to last general election, several political parties approached the EC with a request for at least 50% counting of the VVPAT slips. EC has ignored the pleas and has only given lame excuses which are not satisfactory. Until EC disprove the open challenge from the independent experts, the public is losing faith in our electoral process. Besides, in most cases of EVM malfunction, the votes are credited to a particular political party. This increases our apprehension and suspicion. Please remove our doubts by counting cent percent VVPAT slips in a transparent manner before decalring the results.
Election Commission is our temple in the democracy. We don't want false prophets to weaken our faith in the system. Please restore our faith in the election processes. Please establish a fool-proof system. Please accept criticism and improve the process. Please respond to RTI queries and don't hide behind offical secrets act. Be the safe custodian of largest democracy in the world.
This petition specially appeal to the Election Commission to tally 100 VVPAT slips in the recently concluded Bihar assembly election.
