Here's a link to an article on the East to West corridor study that is being done.
I spoke out in September at the FAMPO stakeholders meeting. Some people in the group wanted to eliminate a new river crossing from being part of the study. The group left the river crossing in the study, but moved the priority ranking of the river crossing in the study down.
Study addresses east–west transportation issues in Fredericksburg area
Here's my argument on why a New North to South Road would relieve the traffic on the East to West Roads.
The Blue Highlight demonstrates the backward C movements that is causing our East to West Roads to get congested. In this case it's a GEICO employee in Garrisonville driving to work or a soccer mom in Hartwood that's driving to Embrey Mill Park. The total distance of the Backward C movement using Route 1 is 12.6 miles. If the Drivers used I-95 the distance would be 9.7 miles, but using the Inner connector road (In Pink) the distance would be reduced to 7.7 miles. This demonstration shows the Inner Connector would eliminate car trips on the most congested areas of Route 630, Route 1 and Route 17.
I have only shown one example of the Backward C movement, but it occurs on all of the East to West Roads including, Route 610, Route 3 and Harrison Road. The lack of Regional North to South Roads forces people to drive on the East to West Roads for longer Distances until they can turn to drive North or South. Building another Regional North to South road will Help reduce traffic on the most congested parts of the East to West Roads, while providing many more driving alternatives to keep local traffic moving even during lane closures on Route 1 or I-95.
I received no response from my November 11, 2021 Freedom of Information Request to Supervisor Snellings.
I do want to thank the approximately 50 people that emailed Officials supporting the Park designation at the Abandoned Cannon Ridge Golf Course. We lost that battle, but there will be more battles to come.
Over the weekend we reached over 4,000 supporters. We must continue to gain strength, because within the next year there is a big rezoning battle ahead. If we loss that battle all hope for the Inner Connector will be lost.
Please keep sharing and telling your friends. We could use letters to the editor if the Freelance Star would print them. It seams Public Officials have been able to quash articles about the Inner Connector Road, Trail, and Park network.
Thanks for your support,
Joe Brito
