Hi everyone,

I've been dealing with health issues with a family member. That's why you haven't heard from me. I plan to lead another Battle for the Road in the Spring.

An article came out in the Freelance Star about a number of Transportation studies, but elected officials are refusing to include the Inner Connector and Trail proposal in the study.

I included below links to the article and the Freelance Star Facebook Page. I ask all of you to please comment and give a thumbs up.

Here are my comments on the study.

Improvements at Centrport, Route 1 and the I-95 interchange  are essential, because of the Traffic impact of millions of sq, ft. of new warehouses and delivery services.

I'm not sure about the other projects proposed, but they sound very expensive. The question is do they provide an alternative route for local traffic or are they going to rely on I-95 and Route 1?

After studying the transportation grid for over 25 years, I put together a proposal for a New North to South road with a trail West of I-95 (The Inner Connector) that would allow local traffic to use it without getting on Route 1 or I-95. Over 4,200 people have signed a petition supporting a study of the Inner Connector road and trail proposal.

The Regional Inner Connector Road and Trail proposal would do well in the study. It improves the Transportation Grid by linking 5 existing roads (Some Underutilized) that will create connectivity to 20 roads and provide almost 100 different alternative routes. It's the only option proposed to reduce traffic on a 15 mile section of Route 1, Reduce traffic on the busiest sections of Route 3, Route 17, Route 630 and Route 610 while improving fire and rescue response and transport times in some areas of Stafford and Spotsylvania Counties.

Connecting the Population centers on the West side of I-95 with the destination and Work centers provides shorter routes for as many as 25,000 cars. If each car could save 2 miles of driving time, it would reduce driving and air pollution for our region by 50,000 miles per day, while it reduces gridlock on the most congested roads. This would significantly reduce our regions carbon footprint.

This Regional proposal should be studied and compared with the other proposals. Why are elected officials ignoring the wishes of over 4,200 people?
What are they afraid of? The other projects are piecemeal. Exit ramps on I-95 will only help traffic in one direction. Dumping that I-95 traffic off on Bragg Rd. and Fall Hill Avenue could be a major impact. A study was done in the late 90's that showed a new I-95 exit at that location would triple the traffic on River Road. It is believed people that normally drive on Route 3 would start using River Road to go to Route 3 West. What would the traffic impacts be to Fall Hill Avenue?

We can't keep relying on I-95 and Route 1. We have to defuse the traffic on those roads and do what cities have done for thousands of years and that is to build a Transportation Grid system that provides many alternative Routes.

I'm asking people to comment on the road Study and say that all Road Improvement Proposal should be included in the study and compared to each other.
Please include the "Inner Connector Road and Trail Proposal"
 in the Study.
