Quite simply put, Robert E. Lee was a commander of the Confederate army during the civil war. A side that fought to keep black bodies in chains. 

Any and all symbols of Past oppression should be recognized as such and removed. 

I’m calling on the El Paso Independent School District to recognize this symbol of oppression that still hangs over the community and change the name of this Northeast Elementary School. 

Though we may not see the enslavement or chains, the remains of a once racially divided society are held onto these names, statues, and flags.
