Defend the "Dos Alas" Mural

Defend the "Dos Alas" Mural
The mural belongs to El Barrio!
Our community mural “Dos Alas” — a mural honoring Don Pedro Albizu Campos and Che Guevara — on 105th and 3rd Ave. is under attack by right-wing forces. On Friday, August 14th, the mural was vandalized and restored immediately by community leaders. “Dos Alas” is the only remaining installation created by local artists and activists in 1999 to combat gentrification, show the historical bond and solidarity between the Puerto Rican and Cuban people and to celebrate two of Latin America’s historic figures of anti-colonial and anti-imperialist resistance. East Harlem is a diverse community of predominantly Puerto Rican and African American people, as well as immigrants from Asia, Central and South America, Africa and the Caribbean.
On August 14th the mural was defaced and restored immediately by community leaders. We have already gathered hundreds of in person signatures of residents of El Barrio (East Harlem) in defense of the Dos Alas Mural. We will defend and protect our neighborhood’s legacy of struggle.
Sign if you agree with our right to protect the “Dos Alas” mural from threats by members of the “Artists Making Changes Foundation” -- an organization advocating for U.S. intervention in Cuba. Long live the sovereignty of the Cuban and Puerto Rican people!
To protect the mural, we demand:
- Immediate protection of the “Dos Alas” mural from advocates of U.S. intervention
- Preserve, protect and archive community murals in the neighborhood
- Support local artists from El Barrio
