On the 2nd of March 2019, Karin Bavinck and Amr Sabry had a surprise visit of government officials, threatening to break down their home. On the 3rd of March 2019, the mayor and a crew were already at the property with a bulldozer and broke down the garden walls, giving them 2 weeks to either find a solution or remove all valuables for the home to be torn down.

Karin and Amr are a couple who live in Dahab for over 20 years together and are well known to be the animal rescuers of this town. Karin also regularly initiates and assist in multiple projects involving environmental awareness in general. They have purchased Bedouin land a long time ago and built their house on it, in which they live with their 10 rescued dogs. They are working tirelessly for the welfare of the stray animals by looking after them when they are ill or injured, and by reducing the amount of stray dogs and cats, by organising multiple TNR projects every year and putting any effort into getting stray animals adopted within Dahab or other places around the globe. They are making a huge difference and even take in new stray animals themselves, if no other solution is available. By helping the animals, they also offer a big help to the people of Dahab, because they are helping the community deal with the large amount of stray animals and owned pets. If there is nowhere to turn to regarding an animal, Karin is the first to think of and call and she will always be ready to think of and work actively on solutions.

Their home is also amongst the first ones in Egypt that is completely solar powered and they had planned to add wind energy in the future to be even more sustainable. Yet, because of the fact that the land has been purchased many years ago, before laws were strictly in place and because the government now has new plans for the area they live in, they are threatened with eviction.  

So if they lose their home in a matter of weeks, Dahab will not only lose people that have been at the heart of this community for many years, but also a unique sustainable home.

Please sign the petition to ask the Governorate of South Sinai and the Ministry of Environment in Egypt to reconsider this decision and to seriously look at alternative solutions to demolishing this home. 

في الثاني من مارس عام 2019 ، قام مسؤولين حكوميين بزيارة مفاجئة لكارين بافينك وعمرو صبري ، وهددوهم بهدم منزلهم. في الثالث من مارس عام 2019 ، كان رئيس مجلس المدينة و مساعدية موجودين بالفعل في مكان إقامة الزوجين و معهم جرافة وكسروا جدران الحديقة ، و منحوهم أسبوعين لإيجاد حل أو إزالة جميع الأشياء الثمينة من المنزل الذي يريدون هدمه. كارين وعمر زوجان يعيشان في دهب منذ أكثر من 20 عامًا ، ومعروفان جيدًا أنهما منقذوا الحيوانات في هذه المدينة. كما ان كارين أيضًا تقوم بالمبادرة والمساعدة بشكل منتظم في العديد من المشاريع التي تتضمن الوعي البيئي بشكل عام. لقد قاموا بشراء قطعة أرض من البدو منذ فترة طويلة، ثم قاموا ببناء منزلهم عليها ، حيث يعيشون مع كلابهم الـ 10 التي قاموا بإنقاذها. إنهم يعملون بدون تعب من أجل الحيوانات الضاله في الشارع عن طريق الاعتناء بهم عندما يكونون مرضى أو مصابين, ويبذلون مجهود كبير في سبيل أيجاد متبنيين لحيوانات الشارع داخل دهب أو أي أماكن أخرى حول العالم .. انهم يصنعون فرقاً هائلاً وهم ايضا يتبنون حيوانات شاردة جديدة أنفسهم إذا لم يتوفر حل آخر. من خلال مساعدة الحيوانات ، يقدمون أيضًا مساعدة كبيرة لأهل دهب ، لأنهم يساعدون المجتمع في التعامل مع كمية كبيرة من حيوانات الشارع الضاله والحيوانات التي ليس لها اصحاب إذا كان لا يوجد مكان تلجأ إليه . فيما يتعلق بالحيوان, فأن كارين هي أول من يتم اللجوء اليها و هي تكون دائمًا على استعداد للمساعدة والعمل على إيجاد حلول فعالة. كما أن منزلهم يعتبر من أول المنازل في مصر التي تعمل بالطاقة الشمسية بالكامل وقد خططوا لإضافة طاقة هوائية في المستقبل لتكون أكثر استدامة. بالرغم من كل هذا, ولأن الأرض قد تم شراؤها منذ عدة سنوات ، قبل أن يتم تفعيل القوانين في دهب و بسبب أن الحكومة لديها الآن خطط جديدة للمنطقة التي يعيشون فيها ، فإنهم مهددون بالطرد. إذا فقدوا منزلهم في خلال أسابيع ، فإن دهب لن تخسر فقط أشخاص كانوا في قلب هذا المجتمع لسنوات عديدة ، ولكن أيضا منزل فريد مستدام صديق للبيئة. يرجى التوقيع على الالتماس الخاص بطلب من محافظة جنوب سيناء ووزارة البيئة في مصر إعادة النظر في هذا القرار والنظر بجدية في حلول بديلة بدلا من هدم هذا المنزل.
