Less Strict Dress Code For Effingham County Schools

Less Strict Dress Code For Effingham County Schools
The Issue
I'm not trying to get rid of the dress code completely just to get rid of uniforms mainly. When we get to dress down on dress-down days we still have to follow some type of policy and the school rarely ever has problems with what people choose to wear. Helping to take away uniforms and be more lenient towards what people can wear would make kids a lot happier, not just because they get to basically wear what they want but mainly because they will feel more like themselves. You can tell if something is inappropriate where the chest or bottom area is showing. Bigger girls wear skirts and shorts that go down to the knee but because of their body type, it slides up a little. It can be the end of the day or the first day of school not knowing the dress code, and yet teachers and administrators take the time to get us in trouble for a couple of inches. Instead of shaming women for their body types, teach men to respect girls and not to use them for their amusement. To let students be more open and free in their choices every day, including how they dress and what they accessorize with. As well as lower the targeting of students with different sizes and body types. Furthermore, it’s also to decrease the number of sexist words and rules that have been set in place for the dress code. When school uniforms are mandatory the parents have the added expense of clothing that their children will have no use for outside of school. They still need to buy regular clothes for their children to wear after hours, on the weekends, and for casual dress days. If kids are wearing the school's uniform when they get into trouble out of school it reflects on the school. No uniform no problem… Uniforms go against teen nature. Everyone has a right to freedom of expression. Forcing all students to wear the same thing infringes on this right. It also stifles students' self-expression which is a strong need during adolescence. Schools teach us to be us and express who we are. If we are all dressed the same what are we expressing? It’s uncomfortable and the material isn’t comfortable enough to have to sit in 8 hours through the day. They teach us the amendments in school why can’t they educate us to follow them. Us women are being labeled as distractions. Some rules are put in place to limit our freedom of expression. They wait for us to wear short shorts so they have the pleasure of taking us out of our learning time to tell us to wait in the office for a change of clothes. Why should we have to suffer in the heat so boys aren’t distracted by our legs, shoulders, and our stomach? Who has ever said revealing in clothes was distracting a person from doing their work? As long as our clothes are in guidelines and aren’t showing everything it’s fine. Kids are still going to do things and bring things to school with or without uniforms. Clothes today for young teenage women are mostly crop tops and ripped jeans for men. Thighs should not have to be hidden because of men. Shoulders should not be covered because of men. Men also should not have to be dress coded because of their legs. This dress code is targeting EVERYONE, not just women. It is outdated and is not lining up with most of the clothes today. It is a fact that we have to accept to move forward. Minors are being sexualized and have had uncomfortable experiences with this issue. Women, men, and everyone should be able to express their selves in whatever clothes desired unless it has inappropriate content or shows inappropriate nudity. Being mature means respecting what people can afford and respecting the clothing they like and love. Parents can choose whether or not their kids wear masks as of now so why don’t parents also get a say in the clothing their kids are wearing. We already have to sit down and wear thick clothing as well as move around all day from class to class. People like to stick out and be unique, but if we are all the same, we don’t get the chance to do that. People get to choose what shoes they wear and some are way more expensive than others people don’t tend to get bullied. The reason is that it’s what they like and they are going to wear what they like and are comfortable in. If kids get to wear what they would like to school would be a lot easier and I feel like a lot more people would enjoy school.
