Tank tops are comfortable and appropriate unisex attire for exercising, and students should be allowed by the PE department to wear them. The fact that they are not allowed by the dress code, because they are revealing, shows an inappropriate attitude towards students’ bodies, male or female. Furthermore, a proposed change in the dress code to require school tee-shirts in PE classes would be counterproductive. In that restricting the dress of a student because it is deemed provocative by administration gives priority to appearance over education.
