Education Crisis in Botrivier 2023

The Issue

  1. Primary School
  • Insufficient infrustructure and educators.
  • Many parents in Botrivier registered their children at surrounding schools from Grade R to Grade 8. This caused more transport problems and the school will be unable to absorb all the Learners when they return back to Botrivier Primary School. This move from Botrivier Primary School to Surrounding schools caused more problems with overcrowded classrooms.
  • Our IsiXhosa Learners from Grade 5 to 8 also have to attend school at the surrounding towns. They also experiences overcrowding at the various schools in Grabouw whereby the IsiXhosa Learners for the Primary School have to wait untill April 2023 to be accepted or rejected.
  • The Current Infrasture of the Botrivier Primary School is a Risk in that it was built on a wetland and started sagging and cracking. Only the Walkways was declared safe by the Engineers for use, and not the entire building. This causes that the personnel feels unsafe in an environment of education.
  • The influx of our Knoflokskraal and surrounding farms contributes to the pressure of the current insufficient infrastructure/educators and overcrowded classrooms.

2.  High School

Busses leaving for Secondary schools in surrounding towns are:

  • 2 Busses for Swartberg,
  • 2 Busses for De Rust,
  • 2 Busses for Umyezo,
  • 4 Taxis for Groenberg
  • 1 Taxi for Grabouw High School and alot of
  • Private transport

Botrivier requires a Multi Pathway Education Institute. Many parents can't afford transport cost to give their children secondary education. Every learner have to travel 30km plus for secondary education.

With a Multi Pathway Education Institute drop outs will reduce. It will be affordable for all parents to give their children education. Over crowded surroundings schools will be able to have space for the surrounding households.

Many Learners of grade 9 to 12 did not receive acceptance due to overcrowded surrounding Secondary Schools with goverment transportation. This will place additional pressure on parents that are unable to afford transport cost when hiring private transport.

3.  Immediate action required

Primary School:

  • Additional Classrooms and Educators
  • Engineering report to be revisited and include the entire infrastructure to be declared as safe.
  • Advance action plan for additional infrastructure to accommodate influx of learners in Botrivier,Knoflokskraal and Surrounding Farms.

Secondary School:

  • New Multi Pathway Education Institute to be built for Ecademic, Vocational,Occupational and Technical.
  • Land was allocated to the Department of Public Works Erven 2593 to 2600 for the erecting of a Secondary School 24 March 2015, with no results.
  • Immediate Infrastucture to be built for the shortcoming of Learners that cannot be accommodated at surrounding schools, and those having transport challenges.
