Education around Tampon use in the British Curriculum - Stop Sexualising Periods.

The Issue

The Love Your Period campaign focuses on destigmatising female health and educating about topics - such as menstruation - that the education system did not teach us.

As period campaigners, we noticed how in most public secondary schools, students are taught how to use condoms correctly, while education about tampons is often overlooked with excuses such as it being "inappropriate" or "unnecessary".

This is not an isolated incident but rather a systemic issue that needs addressing.

Menstruation is a natural bodily function - why is it stigmatised and sexualised or a point of risking young people's safety when it comes to proper menstrual product use?

According to the National Health Service (NHS), incorrect usage of tampons can lead to serious health issues like Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). Yet many young people lack proper knowledge because our educational institutions fail to provide adequate information about menstrual hygiene products.

We must challenge this imbalance in our education system. We demand that equal emphasis be placed on teaching students about both condom and tampon usage. This will ensure that all pupils have access to comprehensive sex and health education, regardless of gender.

Why is it okay for us to learn about condoms but not tampons?

Surely, they have equal importance.

Sign this petition if you believe that the safe usage of tampons and education about all menstrual products is essential for health and safety and should be equal to education as condom use in the British curriculum. It should not be sexualised or stigmatised.
