DON'T OVERLOAD STUDENTS: ASSIGNING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF WORK TO STUDENTS INHIBITS THEIR ABILITY TO LEARN
10 to 15 percent of Filipino children, aged 5 to 17, suffer from mental health problems. According to the National Statistics Office (NSO), mental health illnesses are the third most common form of morbidity for Filipinos. We are all aware that students nowadays are dealing with more serious mental health problems, such as alarmingly high rates of anxiety and depression. Academic stress may be one of the most common causes of poor mental health among K–12. Students who experience academic stress frequently do badly in school so that is why we decided to create a petition against schoolwork overloading.
In every student, academic stress may play a crucial role in the development of depression. Whether kids are distance learning at home or are in the classroom, academic stress continues to affect them. Academic stress is a term used to describe the stress that individuals can experience in regard to exams or assignments, schoolworks, and educational environments. Students are supposed to be working and practicing and learning throughout their high school experience, the load of work students get can be overbearing at times. Overloading schoolwork can lead to stress, anxiety, and even poorer grades due to a lack of sleep and motivation. It's important to keep in mind that having oversupply of requirements/schoolworks are not beneficial to students because it’s just a source of stress. And the worst part is that overloaded schoolworks will lead to depression, if not handled well by students. This will also cause inefficient learning because the students’ minds will only be focused on the deadline or the need to comply.
Mental health education is crucial, especially for this generation. The greatest approach for everyone to comprehend mental diseases and stop treating them as a joke is to put them on a larger platform, such as the school curriculum. In the Philippines, mental health does not receive the attention it deserves. To improve student mental health, schools should reduce academic works.
