The Issue

I, Justine Angel Jackson, have been faced with multiple troubling encounters with police officers while exercising my God-given and constitutionally protected right to travel. On several occasions, I have experienced unlawful arrest, harassment, physical assault, threats, and the unauthorized towing of my automobiles. These unfortunate and wrongful incidents seem to stem from a lack of understanding among law enforcement about the distinction between the right to travel and the privilege to drive. In Oklahoma and across America, the confusion surrounding this fundamental issue persists. As Americans, our voices need to be heard, demanding clarity and fairness in this matter. The problem of unlawful detainment, unwarranted arrests, and inappropriate towing mainly arises from police officers' unawareness and lack of education on the right to travel. I recognize that police officers are public servants, but the lack of proper information isn't entirely their fault. Often, they operate without the nuanced understanding of these rights, which leads to a cascade of civil liberty violations. It's evident that knowledge is power, and so much could be resolved by adequately informing and educating officers on this critical issue. With proper education, we can avoid unnecessary civil lawsuits and maintain honor and respect for all parties involved. My call to action is clear: ensure that all police officers in Oklahoma receive comprehensive education on the right to travel versus the privilege to drive. By doing so, we can foster a community where rights are respected, unnecessary confrontations are minimized, and mutual understanding prevails. We must not overlook the importance of this distinction. Let's aim to equip our law enforcement officers with the knowledge they need to perform their duties with integrity and respect for the rights of individuals. Please sign this petition to support the necessary education and training for police officers in Oklahoma on this crucial issue. Let your signature be a part of the change towards a more informed and just system.  To the people who genuinely ask the question; What’s the difference between the right to travel vs the privilege to drive? Great question. We all need informed properly so we’re not divided. The law states such distinction between the two exist. Driving is commerce while traveling is not. The Supreme Court has made that decision very clear and according to our blacks law dictionaries. Benjamin Franklin- “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” “Genius without education is like silver in the mine.” “Being ignorant is not so much a shame as being unwilling to learn.”
