Edinburgh University is taking social distancing too far. Catered students have to go to the restaurant to eat twice a day 7 days a week. We have to sit and eat on our own tables, similar to an exam seating plan. The reason many people are paying so much extra for catered is to sit with friends and neighbours and eat dinner and brunch together. Making us sit on our own metres apart or worse making us eat alone in our bedrooms every day is bad for our mental health as the one thing new students need to do to ‘settle in’ is talk and socialise especially with people you are living with. I’m writing this petition because I believe we should be allowed to sit at tables with at least our flat mates whom we share our kitchen/ pantry with.

please sign this petition to try and get Edinburgh to find a way we can at least sit and eat with people in our flats/ bubbles. We already won’t be seeing each other in class the least we should be allowed is to go to dinner together even if seats at the table are spaced apart, as long as we are sitting at tables together everyone would feel much more comfortable.
