As of March 25 2021, the teachers here at Edgewood are only allowed to call us the name that is in PowerSchool. No nicknames or preferred names are allowed. No one has explained to the students why they are no longer allowed, all students were told is that they are to only be called their full/real first name, or their last name. This would mean that students would have to get used to writing a different name on their papers, and get used to teachers calling them by something they either don’t go by, or their last name only. For some students, school was their safe place to be respected and use their preferred name or nickname. Overall, this new rule is hurtful to the students, and should be removed.
