Remove Edgar Martinez from Univision Deportes

The Issue

On Wednesday July 22, 2015, during the broadcast of the Gold Cup game between Mexico and Panama, many of us witness what would be an extremely controversial game and end result. During the game, Mr. Edgar Martinez did nothing but negatively express himself over and over again against one team, the Mexican team. He has made it a point in every single broadcast where he calls or narrates the games to be the center of attention regardless of what happens in the games.

On this particular game, he became extremely outraged due to the fact that the referee had awarded the Mexican team a few calls on their favor. His outrage and negative comments became louder and louder as the bradcast went on.

Now, I believe in freedom of speech, but as a sports analyzer, a commentator and a public figure, to utilize the broadcast air time to express himself so negatively about one team in particular, has led me to believe that he lacks ethic and professionalism. Due to the lack of these specific traits, I am petitioning Univision Network to remove him from calling any future events. As a TV Viewer, no one can enjoy these types of comments during a GAME. A TV Viewer, turns their TV to escape from stress, to enjoy a game, regardless of the outcome. His cockiness and defiant in twitter, tells me that he needs to mature and until he has been removed from the line up. I will not watch Univision deportes. Especially after NBC and Telemundo securing the following World Cups and big events.

Regardless of the nationality and how he personally feels about a specific outcome, I do not believe a professional broadcaster should ever express himself the way Edgar Martinez did, the night of July 22nd. He has claimed that "he will never be censored by his Nework" and that "he is ashamed of calling games while this circus continues" Circus meaning a CONCACAF sponsored game.

By signing this petition, we are raising our voice to Univision to listen to our concerns and we demand a change.

Thank you
