We worked hard for 2 years and it seems like our efforts have gone to waste. The recent Edexcel A-Level Maths Paper 2 lacked key topics that are fundamental to the course. Topics such as binomial expansions, trigonometric modelling, harmonic identities, the trapezium rule, first principles, geometric series, implicit differentiation, proof by contradiction, newton raphson and Rsine were missing. We were tested on the same topics multiple times. This oversight unfairly challenges our capacity to demonstrate the knowledge and skills we have painstakingly built.

The lack of coverage of these main topics means that the grades we will receive on results day won't be a true reflection of our understanding and ability in mathematics. Usually, these core topics are covered extensively across examination papers, offering students a balanced opportunity to exhibit their proficiency.

Edexcel, as an organization responsible for setting fair examination standards, needs to acknowledge this discrepancy. The omission of these critical topics in the paper undermines the fairness and integrity of the examination process.

We are calling on Edexcel to consider implementing lower grade boundaries or compensatory measures for this year’s exam. It is crucial to provide a fair chance for students to achieve grades that truly reflect their potential. Students' futures could be at stake, and it is only right that every effort is made to ensure an equitable assessment.

Please sign this petition to urge Edexcel to take necessary actions to correct this imbalance before results are released, allowing students' hard work to be justly rewarded.

UPDATE:

It’s now come to light that Edexcel gave out two different versions of the Pure Maths paper. One of them had 16 questions and included topics that weren’t present in the other. This creates a completely unfair situation where not all students were assessed on the same content or difficulty level.

This isn’t a minor issue – our university offers and futures are on the line. Allowing this to slide without action risks disadvantaging hundreds, if not thousands, of students. Edexcel MUST address this, and compensate marks or allow a resit.
